Karen and Kathy had an absolutely amazing day out recently – it was a real afternoon with a difference – they went along to the Victoria Gallery and Museum – one of Liverpool’s real hidden gems!  Lots of people assume it is part of the university and not open to the public, but in fact it is a cracking little museum with a fantastic café - all housed in an absolutely beautiful building and a real treat to have a look round.

Kathy arrived first and went up to the first floor – as Karen arrived and looked for Kathy we spotted her waving down at us from the balcony above!

The building itself is stunning and had the most amazing tiles on the walls and whichever way you look there are gorgeously ornate carvings, features and a real feeling of grandeur.  As part of one of the exhibitions we got to do some tile rubbing – and we spotted examples of these tiles round the building as we went.  There was lots of different exhibitions – a real mix – we got to have a go at looking at x-rays, we saw a 3D film, the history of dentistry and lots, lots more – and we had a great time looking round and exploring!

Karen said “I liked it best when we dressed up in the tent.”  The exhibition was about fossils and gave us a flavour of what camp life was like for archaeologists in the dessert – it was great fun.

The café downstairs was lovely and the building is fully accessible.  The lift has glass walls – a bit like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.  We will definitely be going back again very soon!
