Natural Breaks are delighted to have been involved with the fantastic “Taste of Life” course that Liverpool Community Spirit run.  The course runs over 8 sessions and teaches us about different cultures.  Tom, Steve, Diane, Alan, Maureen, David and Andy have been on the course and have enjoyed every minute of it.

It is a great way to learn about people from different places and we’ve learned some really interesting things – we’ve learned that the Jewish Sabbath begins as soon as it is dark on a Friday night and that prayers are said in the house and the lady of the house lights candles and blesses everyone.  The men tried on kippahs – these are brimless caps that Jewish men wear.  We learned about the Torah which is the Jewish equivalent of a Bible.

On the Jewish week we all made different things.  Tom helped Matthew to prepare pomegranate and apple juice and used the juicing machine.  Diane made everyone Chicken Soup – also known as Jewish Penicillin.  Alan made laktes for starters – these are potato cakes and Alan grated all of the potatoes and mixed in egg and onions.  Steve made oat cookies.  Everything was a huge hit and it was brilliant to learn together, cook together and eat together.

David said “Steve gets so much from being involved with Liverpool Community Spirit and gets involved with all aspects of the course and I’m finding it really interesting too.”

Diane said “I’m loving coming here.  I usually go to Knit and Natter and I wasn’t sure about coming here for a few weeks – but I’m really glad I did decide to change it is brilliant.  I’ve really enjoyed making food and I’m going to make it at home for people I live with.  Matthew, Alison and Hinnah are so lovely.  I know Matthew from our Thursday club at Bridge Chapel.”

CEO of Natural Breaks Diane Hesketh said “It’s great to hear how excited everyone is about being involved with the Taste of Life Course and I’m really excited that Natural Breaks has this opportunity to work with Liverpool Community Spirit again.”
