When I started working for Natural Breaks 25 years ago we were a small not for profit organisation supporting a handful of people some of who we still support today. I’ve grown up with the people we support - I’ve supported people through different stages of their lives including, moving into their own home, securing employment also through the difficult times. I consider myself very lucky to have been a part of people’s lives and to have so many wonderful memories.

Natural Breaks became a Charity 3 years ago as doing this allows us to raise money and to access funding creating better opportunities for the people we support.  The reason we became a Charity was simply because it would enable people we support to have more opportunities and to lead lives the same as everyone else.

The abseil down Leasowe Lighthouse was very last minute – someone couldn’t do it and I was more than happy to throw my hat in the ring and raise money for an organisation that is and always will be a huge part of my life.  I wasn’t quite so happy on the day as I climbed up all of those stairs – but when I got to the top and stepped out I could see all of my friends, family, people we support and colleagues from Natural Breaks (very far!) below and that inspired me to take that big step down the light house.  It was brilliant to have so much support from everyone and to be honest I wouldn’t expect anything less from the friends of Natural Breaks – everyone is so encouraging and kind – we are an organisation that is like a family.

The money I raised will go towards the costs of the accessible caravan that we have bought in North Wales for people we support, families of people we support and staff to use for holidays.

I’d like to thank all of my friends and family for sponsoring me and for coming along on the day to cheer me on – I set myself a target of raising £200 and I raised £455 which I am really pleased about  – if I can do it so can you – raise money for Natural Breaks today!
