On Saturday 6th April, our Newquay gang attended the Liverpool Lions Gala at The Liner Hotel.

The evening was a celebration of Liverpool Lions’ work and through that, the people and organisations they’ve supported.

Which is exactly why we were there!

Thanks to Liverpool Lions (and Newquay Lions), Natural Breaks’ trip to Newquay has continued year on year.

For nearly two decades, both Newquay and Liverpool Lions have subsidised a week-long break for a number of people whom we support that may not otherwise be able to go on holiday.

Joanne, Natural Breaks’ Social and Learning Service Manager, said:

“Newquay and Liverpool Lions have sponsored our annual trip for so many years. Having sponsorship means that people who typically may not be able to go on holiday can go away and have an action filled week, whilst providing respite for parents and carers. It’s such an opportunity for people we support, we never take it for granted and so are delighted when we get the chance to go again each year!

So, when we are asked to attend the Liverpool Lions annual charter event, we never say no, as it’s our way of saying thank you for the opportunities we have been afforded. And as it’s a celebration- everyone who goes along has such a good time!

We’re so thankful for the help from the Lions Club who with additional funds from the Natural Breaks ‘Take a Break’ project support people to have affordable holidays within a beautiful destination’.

The ‘Take a Break’ project supports us with events, trips and even our Have Your Say sessions. To learn more, visit our dedicated page here.

Now, back to the evening itself!

There was music, dancing and a delicious three – course meal. It was wonderful to be able to celebrate with Liverpool Lions and this year we had the people we support, staff and also family members, all whom benefit from the sponsored holiday join in the fun.

Annmarie, who has worked with Natural Breaks for over 20 years and has been providing support on the Newquay trip for many years, said:

“It was a brilliant night. Each of us had a fabulous time. All we did was nonstop dancing. What a wonderful way to spend a Saturday evening”.

Anthony who was one of first people to benefit from the subsidised holiday in 2007 and subsequently from the more recent holidays said about the night:

“It was a good night. The food was ok and the girl opera singer was a bit different than last year (I couldn’t get up and steal the mike this time) but the disco afterwards was great. We all got up and had a dance and were probably some of the last people to leave! Everyone looked dead smart, as smart as me in my suit. I’d definitely go again if we are asked next year”

Thank you Liverpool and Newquay Lions for all you do.

Another thank you to all of the people we support, staff and families who took the time to attend and join in with the celebrations.

All that’s left to say is…

Roll on Newquay 2024!
