Highlights from our Learning Disability Week 2025 event From the 16th June to the 20th June, here at Natural Breaks we celebrated Learning Disability Week with this year’s theme being ‘Do you see me?’. This was about making people with a learning disability feel seen, heard and valued. This week was a very important opportunity for us to celebrate the people we support and highlight their achievements, challenge misconceptions and promote inclusion. What activities and workshops were on offer? There was a wide range of activities helping to highlight the achievements, hobbies and skills of people we support as well as fun workshops for people to get involved with. These allowed people to have fun and engage with others, while gaining new experiences in activities they aren’t as familiar with. These activities and workshops included: An artwork exhibition of portraits, paintings and pottery created by people we support as well as an art workshop for people to paint pots or coasters. A bake sale with cakes made by people we support as well as a workshop for people to decorate their own fairy cakes to take home. A jigsaw game that allowed people to get to know someone we support for who they really are and see beyond their label. A comedy booth where Louis, a person we support, could showcase his comedy skills in exchange for a donation. A stand where people we support who have voluntary jobs could talk to people about their roles and responsibilities. A stand where Paul, a person we support, could talk about the walking group he set up in 2024 for everyone we support to get fit together. It was a positive and enjoyable experience for all involved and people had very nice things to say about their experience. Jackie said “The day was just great, I had the best time.” and Steven said “It’s been great here, I got to show my artwork to people and I won the race.” Learning Disability Week is a reminder to always make those with learning disabilities feel seen, heard and valued. As well as seeing beyond labels and truly getting to know people without judgment. We hope all who attended enjoyed their time with us and got something out of this amazing experience!
