On Saturday 20th April, Natural Breaks headed on our first trip of 2024 – Coronation Street.

We had the pleasure of Mencap Liverpool & Sefton and Options for Supported Living joining us on our day out.

“It was brilliant. You do organise a fab trip and everyone was buzzing”

Jo, Mencap Liverpool & Sefton Outreach Manager

Setting off at noon, our group headed to Manchester, eagerly awaiting the tour to come.

Our team kicked off the coach journey with a ‘Guess the Character’ quiz - Coronation Street themed, of course – before all attendees had a gab and a spot of lunch on the go.

"I’m dead excited now after doing that quiz. I’m just nervous about we’ll meet. I want to meet Tyrone”

The tour kicked off with a compilation video of Coronation Street over the last 64 years – the highs, the lows, the tears and the laughs.

“That video was great, wasn’t it. I loved looking back on Corrie from then to now. I forgot some of what happened”

After that, we hit the cobbles. From Roy’s Rolls to Weatherfield Police Station to the Rovers Return Inn, our group saw all the sights of the soap.

“It was boss walking around the set. It was just a shame we didn’t see Roy at the café because he’s locked up. He won’t be serving us anytime soon”

We were given free time to walk the infamous street to take photos and try sneak a peek into the character’s homes.

Once we’d walked the cobbles and explored to our hearts content, we headed on to the most exciting part of the tour.

The meet and greet!

“We didn’t know who we were meeting on the day. Everyone took turns guessing who they thought it might have been. I was secretly hoping it was Gail”

Carly, Natural Breaks’ Marketing and Communications Officer

Our TV star turned out to be….Chesney (played by Sam Aston).

Everyone was delighted and got the opportunity to get a photograph with Sam – which we’re sure will be cherished forever.

“I loved meeting him. I was happy it was him and even asked him if he would marry me”

Our Coronation Street trip was made possible through the ‘Take a Break’ project that exists to subsidise costs, alleviate financial pressures and provide respite for families/carers.

The ‘Take a Break’ project enables Natural Breaks to provide accessible, inclusive and (most importantly) affordable trips, experiences, breaks and holidays for people we support, staff, families and wider.
