Sudley House is a hidden gem of our City, located in Aigburth and built in 1824 it is a beautiful building in a gorgeous location.  It’s most famous owner was George Holt who owned a shipping line and it is he with his daughter and servants who tell you the wonderful history of this amazing building as you move through the house.  George’s daughter Emma Holt left the house to the City of Liverpool in 1944 and is now managed by National Museums Liverpool.  It really is worth a visit.

For the first time in a long time the weather wasn’t as good as it had been, but it was still a warm day, although overcast with some spots of rain.

We all met up in time for lunch some people had packed lunches and some people were buying lunch in the café.  The staff were really helpful and let everyone sit together in the café courtyard area rather than split us up between the café and the picnic area which was really kind as it was not busy.  We had a lovely time talking about what we had been up to and catching up with each other.  Whilst we were eating a little robin kept coming over to join us and say ‘hello’, he was a very friendly chap.

The building is very grand and the group enjoyed hearing the history of the building from the characters and looking at all of the amazing art works.  All of the rooms were very grand and the domed ceiling in the entrance hall was stunning.

The accessible lift takes you upstairs to galleries, where there are displays of the most beautiful evening dresses you can imagine.  It is hard to believe that you would have been able to buy one of these on the High Street in Liverpool in days gone by.

Behind Sudley House are playing fields and Kathy was the first one to grab the tennis racquets and head off for a game.  Louis, Karen and Kath played tennis whilst Tom, Jamie and Gareth played football.  Tom then came over to join in with the tennis and paired off with Louis.  The rain came for a while so we went in to the café for a cup of tea.

It is so great to be able to spend time with friends, have fun, go to new places and try different things.
