Natural Breaks have supported Karen for many years, through our Social & Learning Department. Alongside Karen, our Social & Learning department support other adults with disabilities, autism and acquired brain injuries to access their local/wider community, leisure and employment opportunities. Last year, Karen began volunteering at Liverpool Women’s Hospital. Her main duties are organising and delivering the post around the departments.

Karen said one of the most important aspects of her role is to ensure she is always “on time” and has the “correct uniform”.

She also has to wear an ID Badge that displays her name and photograph to let everyone know who she is.

Speaking about her volunteer role, Karen said:

"I like working at the Women’s and all the people who work there are really nice. They make me feel welcome. I also like going to the café to have a good cup of tea and spend time with Ann”. [Karen’s support worker]

“I want to keep this job and carrying on working here. I love the atmosphere”
