Carl and Kate’s Story: The Electrik Apple Performance For many years, Carl and Kate have been members of The Elektric Apple - a vibrant and trailblazing theatre group for adults with learning disabilities. Together, the pair have starred in every production and performed in front of family, friends, peers, local councillors and even, the Lord Mayor of Liverpool! An unforgettable performance On the evening of February 21st, at Liverpool Lighthouse Theatre, Carl and Kate took part in The Elektric Apple’s latest dark comedy show – That’s The Way We Do It. Kate stood out in her role as a yellow coat, and a member of the Wham tribute band. Carl fully embraced his role, dancing the night away as Elton John and Dolly Parton, bringing so much energy to his performance. They may not have had the leading roles this year, but that doesn’t make their part any less important. Kate and Carl rehearse twice a week and learn everyone’s lines and stage directions, not just their own. They work incredibly hard to make sure they know exactly when to come in and what to do. Working together in partnership At Natural Breaks, we feel incredibly lucky to have such talented cast members as part of our family and talented support staff too as Elza, one of our newer staff members, gave her time to design and build the Punch & Judy booth which was a central part to the plot! We’re also grateful for our close link with The Elektric Apple. Every year, we are kindly gifted tickets. This means that people we support, along with staff and families, can attend and cheer everyone on – especially Carl and Kate. It becomes more than a show for us – it’s a chance to come together, celebrate and build our community in a real, meaningful way. Capturing the night and making memories This year was particularly special because not only was there celebrity appearances in the audience, including Gemma from ‘Find It, Fix It, Flog It’ but our own Anthony G brought his brand-new iPhone 17 to the show. Over the last three years, Anthony has watched every performance. This time, however, with his phone in-hand, he was able to take photographs throughout the show and capture special moments on stage. He even used his flashlight during the songs, lighting up the theatre and showing support in his own way. With the right support, anything is possible We are so proud of Carl and Kate. Seeing them on stage, doing what they love, reminds us of how important these opportunities are and how, with the right support, encouragement and motivation, every dream can become a reality. Our Saturday nights will never be the same. Manage Cookie Preferences
