Back in 2022, Vicki started her own film blog on Instagram – reviewing the best, and worst, movies that she had watched in the cinema.

Debut Screening

Film has always been something she loves, a way to escape and immerse into a new world. Vicki had always dreamed of pursuing a career in film professionally and explored the possibility of film studies in college, however, due to her dyslexia, she thought this may be quite a big leap for her. Rather than seeing this as a barrier, Vicki decided to create her own opportunities to become a film critic via her own digital platform.

With the help of her cousin, Vicki created an Instagram page dedicated to her film reviews and designed her profile picture to match. At the beginning, her cousin helped spellcheck her reviews, but now her mum does before Vicki clicks “post.”

Keeping it real

Since starting her page, Vicki’s favourite thing has been the positivity from people online, who have shown support through likes and kind comments. Many people have told Vicki, that because of her reviews, they went to see the films in question. She has always been honest in her approach, and if a film isn’t good, in her opinion, she’ll say so!

Lights, Camera, Action

When deciding which film to watch and review, Vicki typically looks at newly released trailers to see if it’s something she’d be interested in. The more she watches a trailer, the more she wants to see the film. She then makes a little list in her head and ticks off the films as she watches them. And if it’s a film she likes, she’ll have no problem going back time and time again to rewatch.

Vicki has reviewed 3,040 films – so when we asked her what her top five of all time were, he had plenty to choose from. She managed to narrow it down to to some of the more recent films she has seen including Mother’s Pride, Avatar, Tron, The Roses and Anaconda, the latter being a personal favourite because she found it hilarious.

Get your popcorn ready

Looking to the future, Vicki already has new films in her sights. From The Magical Faraway Tree and The Devil Wears Prada 2 to the upcoming Michael Jackson biographical film, Michael.

Each season, Vicki features in Natural Breaks’ newsletters, where she shares her top three films and promotes her blog to increase engagement and grow her Instagram following. After her first segment, her following increased tenfold which she was amazed at!

We all look forward to Vicki’s reviews and with her confidence growing strength by strength, we can’t wait to see where Vicki’s blog takes her next.
